Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera is a 10.1 megapixel digital single lens reflex camera. It uses an APS-C sized image sensor and accepts EF and EF-S lenses. This function can be used remotely via computer or wirelessly or via Ethernet with the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3A attached.

It also features 14-bit conversion for outstanding color tones and gradations. It has extensive noise reduction technology, with ISO ranging from 100 to 1600 plus ISO 3200 in extended mode. Its ISO is selectable in 1/3 stop increments.

This camera is designed with the DIGIC III image processor to maximize performance between the capture and recording stages of digital photography. This fast and powerful image processor offers a burst rate up to 75 consecutive JPEGs or 17 RAW images. The electronic system is totally re-designed to offer reduced digital noise in shadow areas and superior color reproduction. The DIGIC III image processor and Canon’s CMOS sensor work together to achieve even higher levels of performance.

With the new manufacturing technologies, the Canon EOS 40D digital SLR camera can provide you with larger, clearer, sharper and more detailed photographs. It uses the same technology that was first seen in the EOS-1D Mark III camera. It has the new on-chip noise reduction electronics that works perfectly with the sensors general design for less digital noise. Each pixel is more sensitive to light and there is less wasted area between pixels on the sensor.

With the new AF system with 9 cross-type sensors, it offers sharp and fast focus no matter the light. It is the worlds first diagonal high-precision cross-type AF. Each of the nine Auto Focus points has this cross-type high-precision coverage. It features a cross-type AF at center point with f/2.8 and faster lenses.

Its 9-point wide area AF enables the camera to focus faster and more accurately, even in more complex lighting. You can choose all the focus points automatically or you can access them using the 40D’s intuitive, thumb operated Multi-Controller. The cross-type sensor at the center AF point is sensitive to both vertical and horizontal lines when fast lenses (f/2.8 or faster) are used. This adds to the accuracy and precision of the wide-aperture lenses.

This camera is so fast that it can shoot up to 6.5 frames per second, or up to 75 JPEGs or 17 RAW images in one burst. With 0.15-second start up time and 59-millisecond shutter lag time, it is perfect for shooting everything from wildlife to sports. Featuring a high-speed mirror drive and a predictive AF focusing, it is always on the ready to shoot.
