Dr. Maria Montessori was working as an assistant doctor at the Children’s Psychological Ward at a hospital in Rome and she noticed that if a child was able to self-determine and understand the environment all around, then he/she becomes better in future education. She was the one who first pointed out that a child has a great desire to discover the world all around and is also extremely inquisitive. So to enhance the education of the child, this natural curiosity has to be properly channeled and all the questions needs to be answered, instead of ignoring them, which many tend to do. The fundamentals of Montessori school education lie on the following factors.

  • Children can be very sensitive and they are also able to learn from all around them and so this should be encouraged.
  • Materials: Attention is given to articles that appeal to a child most and these are presented before him/her so that the child gets engrossed in them while the teacher takes the opportunity to teach using these objects.
  • Positive attitude towards learning: The child can attach himself/herself with the learning process in Montessori school education because of its individual nature. This sense of attachment eventually turns into a sense of regard which is vital.
  • No gap in learning: It is important to ensure that there are no gaps in the learning and so, there are planned tasks after each lesson. This method of teaching ensures that the child does not suffer from any sense of uncertainty.

The aim of Montessori education is to ensure that the child is able to reach the full potential in different spheres of life. Specially trained teachers are very valuable here because they can help the children enjoy and also show them the way. And as a result, the child can go through the process of learning in a playful but correct manner where nothing is imposed on the child-student.

With learning from the Montessori Method, the child is able to comprehend what is all around him or her. Both the child and the mentor can form a bond of mutual trust and regard and the child can thus be self-confident.
